Part of the Discoveries America National Parks series of DVDs, Florida Everglades and Biscayne is a breathtaking documentary of Everglades National Park (the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States) and Biscayne National Park (a rare haven of aquamarine waters, islands, and coral reefs). Astoundingly beautiful footage of natural landscapes/waterscapes, as well as rare and endangered species, fill this wonderful showcase. Florida Everglades and Biscayne is the next best thing to visiting these national preserves in person, and highly recommended especially for wildlife lovers and armchair travelers everywhere. 50 min.

Bennett-Watt, DVD $24,95 (9781604901757) Florida Everglades and Biscayne. Florida is home to a variety of national park areas, ranging from Canaveral National Seashore to Everglades National Park.  In this recent addition to the ongoing Discoveries America National Parks series, film crews crisscross the state, sampling 10 National Park Service entities, offering viewers glimpses of beautiful shorelines, ecological preserves, monuments, memorials and other historically significant sites, with the main focus on Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park.

 Voice-over narration, filmed interpreters and video excerpts describe the parks' origins and activities.  Footage shows the respective sites, including visitor center and other attractions.  Many of the parks offer such recreational options as fishing, kayaking, and snorkeling.  This casually shot programs gives potential visitors and armchair travelers a taste of national-park offerings in Florida.  Japanese American Incarceration, 1942-1945 is another title n this series available from Bennett-Watt. --Candace Smith

Combining stunning visuals together with interviews with rangers and other experts, the program features compelling stories about the history of the featured parks and regions.

Viewers will hear a grisly tale of trade and conquest in colonial times, witness the majesty of lift-off at nearby Cape Canaveral, and tour a “schooner wreck” full of maritime mysteries and vibrant coral reefs. The Everglades is Florida’s largest national park, home to an amazing diversity of wildlife, including rare and endangered species such as the American crocodile and the Florida panther, while Biscayne’s mostly underwater domain offers some of the best snorkeling in the U.S. (within sight of urban Miami). Also visited are such landmarks as the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument and other forts dating from the Spanish colonial era.
