Tecka Estancia, Argentina |
|
Tecka Estancia is a huge Argentine ranch, 37 miles long and 25 wide, that covers more than 400,000 acres of high desert in Argentina's Chubut Province, located about one and a half hours from Esquel, the nearest commercial airport. David and Gwenn Perkins begin their trip with an aerial survey by helicopter of the various water on the ranch, including 40 miles or so of the Corcovado river, some of which Gwenn and David floated with Martin O'Farrell previously. But the part of the Corcovado in which they're interested is well downstream from the float in a long section protected on each side by very steep and impassable rapids. This inaccessibility by boat makes it virtually private water and holds some very special treats for David and Gwenn. Tecka Spring Creeks... Another of the Tecka Estancia's hidden gems is the Huemul (pronounced way-mool) spring creek that meanders for 10 miles or so through the Estancia, offering more of that fabled "new water" that is an adventure in travel and an even greater adventure in fly fishing, with small water and big fish that have never seen a fly. Plus a look at another of the ranch's spring creek, the Tecka. Small delicate and clear, with great potential. This one is explored with the help of a helicopter, which rewarded Gwenn and David with numbers, but not necessarily large fish.
