Yellowstone, established in 1872. Most of Yellowstone is however in Wyoming. It is a magnificent example of national park excellence, abundant in wildlife with hundreds of species of mammals, birds, fish and reptiles including grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elk... all within the park boundaries. Lose yourself in the wonders of nature – deep canyons, stunning wildlife and steaming geysers including iconic Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in both summer & winter. During summer wildlife viewing, fishing, camping, back country hiking, horse riding & boating are all accessed by paved roads. But in winter, most roads are closed to wheeled vehicles so travel in the park is by snow machines / snow coach / cross country skiing & snowshoeing. A dramatically different trip in the winter, but with all the animals and majesty you would in other seasons plus the added thrill and adventure of a winter wonderland. Drive around to the North Entrance, for the only open park roads in winter, Mammoth Hot Springs and the Lamar Valley all the way to Cooke City, MT to experience a completely different ecosystem.
